Teeth Whitening in Livonia

We all want a bright, white, shining smile, but unfortunately, life often gets in the way. Dark foods and beverages like coffee, red wine, and even tomato juice can stain and discolor teeth, and the aging process itself often causes teeth to darken over time. Thankfully, teeth whitening offers a simple, convenient option to reverse discoloration and leave your smile whiter than ever.

Our in-office teeth-whitening treatment takes just one visit, but thanks to professional-grade whitening agents we can safely use in our office, we can lighten teeth up to 8 shades in just a single visit. Our Novi cosmetic dentist uses a gentle hydrogen peroxide gel-activated solution, providing a treatment that's easy on teeth but powerful enough to eliminate staining and discoloration. Teeth whitening lets you achieve a beautiful new smile in a single afternoon – so schedule a consultation today!

Dental Veneers

For patients that want to revitalize the appearance of their smile without extensive dental work, dental veneers can help. Veneers are thin, translucent porcelain "shells" that are attached to the front of the teeth, then carefully shaped to match the appearance of your natural teeth. With veneers, we're able to fix a variety of cosmetic dental problems without needing to perform extensive treatment, effectively giving you a brand new smile with unparalleled convenience. We can fix a variety of cosmetic problems with veneers, including:

  • Small chips and cracks
  • Stains and discoloration
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Spaces or gaps between the teeth

Veneers usually require just two appointments, allowing you to achieve a gorgeous new smile faster than ever.

For patients suffering from dental decay dental bridges are an effective way to repair the smile. Crowns are used to repair teeth that have suffered from significant decay, damage, or cracking, and they're effectively a life-like, custom-made "cap" or covering that fits over the original tooth. We can fabricate crowns from porcelain, gold, tooth-colored resin, or a variety of these materials, striking the perfect balance between a natural appearance and long-term durability.

Dental crown treatment is a routine procedure, and for most patients the steps are as follows:

  • First, your Novi dentist will numb the area with an anesthetic.
  • Your dentist will then use specialized tools to remove any dead or decayed dental tissue.
  • Next, your dentist will reshape the tooth to create the perfect fit for a crown, then make an impression of the tooth to use when fabricating your crown.
  • Your dentist will then place a temporary crown on the area, which you'll where over the next week or two as we custom-manufacture your permanent crown.
  • Once your permanent crown is finished, we'll bring you back in to remove the temporary crown, make any final adjustments, and place the permanent crown with dental cement.
  • Your dentist will then make final adjustments to the shape of your new crown, and after that, your new tooth is yours to keep!

The dental crown procedure usually takes 2-3 visits over the course of a few weeks. Once finished, you'll care for your new crown as you do your other teeth: proper dental hygiene, daily brushing and flossing, and regular visits to your Livonia, MI dentist.

    Dental Bridges

For patients missing one or more teeth, dental bridges provide a convenient and reliable solution. Bridges use an artificial tooth (called a pontic) attached to two crowns (called abutment teeth) next to the missing tooth, providing the foundation for the replacement. Bridges help prevent shifting teeth, bite problems, and a variety of other issues that come from missing teeth.

Bridges come in three varieties, each appropriate for certain uses. The three types of dental bridges include:

  • Fixed Bridge: The fixed bridge is the most common and "standard" form of bridge, using a filler tooth attached to two crowns that fit over existing teeth on either side of the missing teeth to hold the replacement in place.
  • Maryland Bridge: Instead of crowns, Maryland bridges attach the filler tooth to two tooth-colored metal bands that wrap around the adjacent teeth. These are most common for replacing the skinny, narrow front teeth.
  • Cantilever Bridge: A cantilever bridge also uses a pontic and two abutment crowns, but the crowns are placed consecutively on the same side of the filler tooth. Cantilever bridges are most commonly to replace the rear molars, which only have teeth on one side to provide support.

    Dental Implants

Dental bridges can provide an effective option for replacing missing teeth, but for a more comprehensive and long-lasting approach, few treatments are as powerful as dental implants. Dental implants consist of a small, screw-like titanium post – the implant – that's inserted into the hole left behind by a tooth root. We then attach a crown to the implant, providing a lifelike replacement for a lost tooth.

What makes implants so powerful is that because they're made from titanium, they possess a unique property called osseointegration. This means that over time, the jawbone literally grows into and fuses with the implant itself, providing an incredibly sturdy and long-lasting support for a replacement tooth. Implants involve a minor surgical procedure and are slightly more expensive than some other options, but they're among the most reliable options available and last a lifetime.

In addition to replacing teeth, implants can also be used to support removable or permanent dentures. This means we can use implants to perform any of the following procedures:

  • Single Tooth Replacement
  • Multiple Tooth Replacement
  • Anterior Replacement
  • Posterior Replacement
  • Implant-Supported Removable Dentures
  • Implant-Supported Permanent Dentures

How to Care for Dental Implants

Caring for a dental implant is relatively simple, as all you'll need to do is maintain proper oral hygiene and care for the implant as you would a natural tooth. However, proper oral hygiene is even more important after getting an implant. Without diligent oral hygiene, bacteria can infect the gums, causing the gums to swell and eventually for the gums and jawbones to recede. If bone recession progresses far enough, it can weaken the implant to the point that we'll need to remove it. However, with proper care and oral hygiene, implants can last you a lifetime.

    Composite Bonding

Composite bonding, also simply referred to as bonding, is a highly convenient, effective way to transform the appearance of your smile without extensive dental procedures. Bonding works by applying a thin layer of tooth-colored dental resin to the front of teeth, then shaping that resin to match the appearance of your natural teeth. With bonding, we can treat a variety of minor cosmetic issues:

  • Chips & cracks
  • Discoloration, stains, and faded areas
  • Gaps and spaces between the teeth

Composite bonding is similar to veneers in that it allows us to conveniently transform the appearance of the smile, but it's a simpler, faster procedure that requires us to remove very little, if any, original tooth structure. Bonding offers a variety of advantages for patients looking to improve their smile, including:

  • Fast: The procedure normally lasts less than an hour
  • Safe: Bonding doesn't require us to remove much tooth structure
  • Cost-Effective: Composite bonding is a relatively inexpensive option for achieving a new smile
  • Customized: We can custom-create the resin to perfectly match the color of your natural teeth, then carefully shape it to perfectly match your teeth

All that said, composite bonding isn't as durable or long-lasting as veneers or crowns. The resin used in bonding is also vulnerable to staining, so proper care and cleaning is vital. However, composite bonding still offers a convenient and cost-effective option for those looking to revitalize their smile.
